This waterfall was just off the main road, and right beside both an amazing river with fantasy-like moss-covered builders, and also right beside a wasabi farm! It was three attractions in one. There was a rickety footbridge without any handrails to cross the river.

Admission is free so you can enjoy this place at no cost! You can purchase fresh wasabi and other wasabi products in a small shop close to the fall before head to the uphill steps again!

【2】Watch the sea creatures at Shimoda Aquarium

Name Shimoda Aquarium

Operating Hours 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM

This aquarium was established in 1967 and it is definitely showing its age. However, all the shows are well-done and you can really feel the bond between the animals and the trainers. Unlike the big productions like Sea World, you can get really close to the animals and take pictures while the dolphins and the seals pose behind you.

If you’re in the area and want to spend half a day out of the sun (or the rain), this is a sweet little aquarium with great shows to enjoy. The gift shop is big with lots of “kawaii” souvenirs to choose from as well.

Love is in the air. When the weather is clear you can see the view of Mount Fuji from the cape. Many couples have wedded here too and during sunset, the view is no doubtly very romantic.

There is one café serving tea and coffee from plastic cups! It’s a tiny bit kitsch but well worth going for the scenery. There’s a resident cat on the boardwalk which has it’s own billboard!!

【4】Swim and Play at Hirizo Beach

Name Hirizo Beach
Address 1260 Nakagi, Minamiizu-cho, Kamo-gun 415-0311, Shizuoka Prefecture
Operating Hours 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

The beach is accessed by boat from the nearby beach, takes about 2 minutes on water, but lines can be very long. Hirizo-hama beach has no tourist structure, so you have to take snacks and maybe a small tent. The ticket can be used all day, so you can go back if you need to use the restroom or buy food/drinks.

Nature is impressive in there, morays and a huge variety of life can be found. Water can be VERY cold, even in summer. The rocky beach was definitely offset by the tropical sea life that can be easily seen as soon as you enter the water.

【5】Koganezaki

This is probably one of the best spots to capture the sunset or even the sunrise and the freshness of the air plus the sea breeze. You can have a relaxing or romantic time with your other half while drinking wine. Definitely a must-visit place when you are in Izu.
