Arata Restaurant is located just 5 to 10 minutes by walk from JR Kyoto Station.
Appearance
The exterior of the restaurant is like the usual izakaya style here in Japan. Its name is also written in Kanji and Hiragana (both are Japanese characters) that may not be familiar with some foreign visitors.
The wall is formed by tiny red bricks that look so sturdy and neat. The front door has black solid frames and glass combo, and you can find a red paper lantern (bonbori) hanging on the right of the restaurant.
Ambiance
If you are searching for a 100% local experience here in Japan, then you choose the right place. The atmosphere is very relaxing and so easy to blend in with a lot of people. You may find some customers talking out loud but trust me, it won’t spoil your night!
There are about 50 seats available for the customers though the dining area looks a little narrow. Everyone still gets the right space to get comfortable with.
More often than not, this place gets really crowded and it is highly recommended to book in advance to get a secure spot.
Most of the customers are locals and there are only very few foreign visitors here since this is not yet so popular among the travelers.
